In this video, Personal Injury Attorney, Craig Ortwerth, breaks down the steps you should take after a car accident if the other driver’s car insurance provider tries contacting you.
The aftermath of an automobile accident is a difficult time. Dealing with getting your vehicle repaired, seeing doctors for any injuries you sustained, and finding new transportation are just a few things that can cause untold stress on you and your family after an accident.
Having to speak with insurance agents is one of the most dreaded experiences one can endure. Dealing with your own insurance provider is bad enough, but having to potentially negotiate with the other driver’s insurance company is even worse.
When in an accident, it is important to remember that the at-fault driver’s insurance agent is not going to be on your side. It is their job to try to minimize the compensation they provide at all costs. They may contact you and present an offer. They may make it seem like it is a great offer and they are unable to increase it.

One of the things that you can expect to happen, almost guaranteed, after an accident is the other driver’s insurance company to reach out to you. They’re gonna want to talk to you and likely take your statement about what happened.
So, I’d like to talk to you a little bit about how that situation may unfold and how you can handle it the best way possible.
They may may be contact you the day of the accident, it may be the day after, or it may be several days after the accieent, but you can expect an insurance adjuster to give you a call.
They are going to say, “Hey, I’d like to talk to you a little bit about the car accident. I want to know what happened and see if we can get the costs situated.”
One of the things to keep in mind is that the insurance company is not on your side. They’re not there to protect you or protect your interests.
They’re there, frankly, to protect the interest of their agency the other driver.
With this in mind, what I’d recommend is having a car accident attorney who can help in this situation. That’s where an attorney comes in, and that’s one of the things that your attorney makes sure is taken care of.
We will reach out to that other drivers insurance company we speak to that adjuster and we make sure that the information is given to them just like they’re entitled to how the accident happened, or what injuries you sustained. That way, it comes through us in such a way that you have someone protecting your interest to make sure everything is documented as accurately as possible.
We make sure that it is accurate and that all of your injuries and property damages are associated with the final compensation costs.
